One of the most exciting developments in tourism to the Galapagos in recent years has been the development of land based tourism. Additionally it was necessary to sail from island to island on yachts and ships of different sizes and degree of luxury. Recently we have been able to visit many of the same locations that the cruise ships go to but without having to stay aboard the vessel as we move from place to place.

The following land based programs use smaller local hotels found on Santa Cruz and Isabela island. From these hotels day trips are run by expert guides to sites within the island or neighboring islands. By not having to constantly move from place to place the visitor has a much more in-depth experience while still seeing most of the flora and fauna encountered on a cruise. The land based trip has several other advantages including the ability to walk into town at the end of the day for shopping and general exploration as well as hanging out with the locals.

Also and important consideration for some, no seasickness. We use fast speed boats to travel between the islands and are usually on the water for no more than an hour or two. Another important consideration is that these land based programs are extremely affordable. Modern yachts and cruise ships are very expensive to operate, by using the friendly local hotels we eliminate allot of the expense that was found previously on trips to the Galapagos.
